Dalyan is set on the river opposite the famous 3000 B.C. rock tombs and ancient city of Caunos. At one end of the river is lake Koycegiz. The broad delta opens onto the beautiful 5 km sandbank separating the crystal clear shallow waters of the Mediterranean from the idyllic labyrinth of reed beds and water ways. The reed beds are 2.5 -3m high and as well as preventing odours, erosion and pollution, are home to a variety of wildlife species including stripe neck terrapins and turtles, fresh water fish and the spectacularly coloured kingfishers. At the boat end of Iztuzu beach you will find a few sun beds and shades, a small bar offering light snacks and cold drinks and a local lady rolling traditional pancakes. At the dolmus end, similar amenities are available as well as the welcoming shelter of pine trees. |

There are no high rise buildings in Dalyan, but simply villas, small family run hotels and local housing that blend into the beautiful landscape of mountains and cotton fields around it. The lush greenery and abundance of fig, banana, pomegranate and citrus fruits trees that grow everywhere are supplied by artesian water. This truly is a beautiful place and was nominated by the Independent Newspaper in July 2003 as one of the best unspoilt holiday destinations in the world. |
